Introduction
A precision tracking drill that trains players to move the marker along a straight lateral path by transitioning between horizontal reference points with smooth, controlled movements.
Key Points
- Improves lateral alignment consistency.
- Reduces overcorrection when moving side to side.
- Strengthens shoulder and elbow stability.
- Develops smooth horizontal tracking mechanics.
- Supports multi target precision development.
Details
This drill reinforces horizontal alignment discipline by guiding the marker across a sequence of lateral reference points arranged along a straight horizontal line.
Players set three to five evenly spaced markers such as tape marks or object edges aligned horizontally at eye level. Starting at the leftmost point, players raise the marker, align visually, then slowly transition to the next reference.
The movement should be continuous and controlled, keeping the torso stable while the shoulders and elbows guide the marker smoothly across the line. Excessive wrist rotation or abrupt direction changes should be corrected immediately.
At each reference point, players pause to check visual consistency before moving on. The drill continues until reaching the far right point, then reverses direction.
Lateral ladder tracking strengthens horizontal path discipline and prepares players for precision drills requiring multi directional stability.
