Neutral Stance Foundation and Weight Distribution Drill

A foundational lower body drill that teaches players how to establish a balanced neutral stance with consistent weight distribution, improving posture stability and readiness for movement.

Introduction

A foundational lower body drill that teaches players how to establish a balanced neutral stance with consistent weight distribution, improving posture stability and readiness for movement.

Key Points

  • Builds foundational stance awareness.
  • Teaches consistent weight distribution.
  • Improves lower body balance for all movement.
  • Reduces sway caused by uneven footing.
  • Supports every footwork and transition drill.

Details

This drill focuses on creating a stable, balanced neutral stance that serves as the baseline for all other lower body training. Players stand with feet shoulder width apart, knees slightly flexed, and hips aligned over the center of the stance.

The primary goal is even weight distribution 50% on each foot. Many players unknowingly lean forward, backward, or to one side, which causes instability during movement or posture transitions.

Players perform slow weight shift checks: gently shifting weight forward, backward, and side to side before returning to a centered position. These checks help players recognize when their stance drifts.

Over repetitions, the stance becomes more automatic and stable, forming the foundation for all controlled locomotion drills.
